You must be a certified electrical installer to install or configure DEFA Power. Configuration and handover are part of the installation process. You must always select an operator.

As an installer, you are responsible for all steps from installation to configuration and handover.

Open the Setup app, go to “Charge System”, and add the load balancer in the same way as you would during the initial installation.
You must restart the charger before the DEFA Balancer can be discovered in the app.
You can verify this in Support Console.
For home chargers, you can also open the DEFA Power app, where the Balancer status is displayed under “Settings” > “Load Balancing”.
Open the Setup app and configure the Wi-Fi connection there.
This is the first step in the configuration process and is displayed at the top of the Setup app once you have connected to the charger.
The Wi-Fi signal strength can be checked in the setup app or in Support Console.
The most common choice is the DEFA Power app for end users and CloudCharge for facility owners. However, there are many operators available, and the choice is entirely up to the customer.
Yes. DEFA Power supports solar integration through Perific One and Perific Max (Sweden).
Here you can set the charger’s maximum charging current, from 6 A up to the highest level supported by the installation. This setting is useful if the owner doesn’t have load balancing but want to limit the charging power, for example to reduce the load on your electrical installation or avoid peak power demand.
The max charging limit is the maximum current that the charger is allowed to use when charging.
While a DEFA Power supports up to 22 kW, the actual maximum charging power depends on several factors:
- The size of the building’s main fuse/service connection
- The circuit breaker protecting the charger
- The cable dimension and installation to the charger
- In shared installations, the total available power allocated to all chargers in the system
As a result, the actual charging power may be lower than 22 kW depending on the site’s electrical infrastructure, power management settings, and the vehicle’s onboard charger.
The Junction charging limit refers to the main fuse capacity of the property—the fuse on the incoming electrical supply.
This value is used by the load balancing system to ensure that the total power consumption of the property does not exceed the available capacity of the main fuse.
As an installer you are authorized to perform a factory reset. The Balancer cannot be reset.
DEFA Power – for single, ready-to-use installations.
DEFA Power S – for smart charging systems and more advanced setups.
DEFA Power S is essentially the same as DEFA Power, but with two key additions that make it more suitable for system-based installations:
Integrated 4G connectivity – perfect for cloud-based monitoring and load balancing across units.
Built in fuse inside the backplate – saves time and reduces external component mounting.
The best cable architecture depends on the layout of your installation and how you plan to deploy and expand your charging system over time.
Dedicated circuit
If each charging point has its own dedicated circuit, DEFA Power is the recommended solution. It is ideal for installations where each charger operates as a standalone unit.
Daisy chain (series connection)
For larger installations, a Daisy Chain cable architecture can be a more cost effective solution. In these cases, we recommend DEFA Power S together with Power Ready S for charge points that are prepared for future expansion. Power Ready S supports multiple cabling architectures, including Daisy Chain, making it easy to add charging units as demand grows.
This approach provides a flexible, scalable charging infrastructure that can be expanded quickly and efficiently when additional charging points are needed.
The only difference is that DEFA Balancer cannot connect to the charger over a 4G connection. To use the Balancer, the charger must be connected to WiFi.
A Perific, however, can be used even when the charger is connected via 4G.
Apart from this, there is no functional difference. The charger remains online, and all other features work the same whether it is connected via WiFi or 4G.

The official firmware version, which is MID-approved, is shown on the right-hand side of the screen. This is the version used for certification and compliance purposes.
If you need to force an update, please contact DEFA Support.
1. Check the settings in the app and make sure everything is configured correctly.
2. Check that no unwanted charging restrictions are enabled in the customer’s vehicle app, such as scheduled charging, location-based charging settings, and other vehicle-specific charging limitations
3. Restart the charger.
4. If the issue persists, perform a factory reset of the charger.
