Q&A – Safety aspect of DEFA Power Home

How do you ensure the RCCB protection requirements in DEFA Power?
The installer shall always mount a RCBO or RCCB type-A and MCB upstream to the charging station. In addition the charging station has a mechanical safety relay built in.

Do you have a mechanical or electronic switch in DEFA Power?
We have a mechanical safety relay in our charging station.

Are you fulfilling the requirement of 3 mm creep distance?
yes, our mechanical safety relay fulfills the requirement of at least 3 mm separation of contacts.

Is there a mechanically coupled RCD which make and break together?
Yes, the safety relay in DEFA Power is mechanically coupled. All poles will make and brake together.

Is there a test function for manually testing the RCD function in DEFA Power?
Yes, by connecting and disconnecting the connector to your EV the RCD is tested. Test of RCBO/RCCB type-A + MCB is also possible to test in the fuse box upstream.

How is the RCDs position shown? (How does the user know the RCD has tripped)?
If the RCD has tripped the charging station shows this to the user through DEFA Power’s display. The frame of the screen becomes red with an error code and description. Test of RCBO/RCCB type-A + MCB is also possible to test in the fuse box upstream.

How does DEFA Power ensure requirement of DC protection for DC fault currents above 6mA?
DEFA Power has an integrated DC-detection device. Fault currents is detected through sensor technology which enables the safety relay. The charging station shows this to the user through DEFA Power’s display. The frame of the screen becomes red with an error code and description.

Does DEFA Power handle the requirement of overvoltage up to 7000V?
Yes. The product is tested to meet all overvoltage requirements for phases and signal. We satisfy this requirement by having sufficient separation distance between high voltage- and low voltage components.

How do you ensure DEFA Power manages the requirements for IP55?
We meet the IP55 requirements by optimizing the products sealing characteristic and extensive testing.

What labeling of the product is required and how do you ensure that there are no labels missing?
The product is correctly and clearly indicated through a laser print on the outside of the product. Clearly visible both during maintenance use and normal use.
