Engine preheaters SafeStart 000 series

Flat conic flange

Heaters in the 000 series can only be installed in vehicles with cast iron engine blocks and a sufficiently large coolant tank.

Description

DEFA has focused on easy installation and optimal heating functionality during development of engine preheaters. For different engine and vehicle combinations DEFA has 9 primary heater elements with more than 500 variants and over 5000 individual applications.

The 000 series can only be used on engines with a cast iron block. The heater’s flange consists of a conical slice, and the heater is kept in place in the engine’s frost hole by a press fit solution. This type of heater is used for engines with a sufficiently large coolant tank, in which the entire heated part of the heating element can be installed. Generally for vehicles with larger engines and a correspondingly large coolant tank.

Engine pre-heaters are supplied separately because of specific necessary adaptations to each individual engine and vehicle type.

Usage definitions

Normal usage – DEFA engine heaters are designed for “normal usage”. DEFA defines “normal usage” as; 3 connections for 3 hours pr. 24 hours for 150 days (5 months) a year.

Professional use – For use emergency vehicles or other vehicles where the heater is in use continually, yearly controls are necessary. It might be necessary to install a replacement heater. Yearly service cost will not be covered by DEFA AS.

NOTE! Pulse power – Some parking facilities use interval (pulse) power timers that turning the power On and Off several times per hour. Using a DEFA engine heater in combination with these timers is NOT considered “Normal use” and claims will be declined.

Technical description

Tests on a medium sized vehicle show that a 600W 000-series heater will increase the coolant temperature approximately 50 C in relation to the outdoor temperature when connected for 195 minutes at an outdoor temperature of -17 C or colder. After 195 minutes the system has achieved thermal balance. Heating for longer that 195 minutes at -17 C or will lead to energy waste. We recommend using a timer.

Up to 25 pr. pack, depending on the size of the heater.

DEFA AS conforms to the requirements of both ISO 9001- 2008, ISO 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007. In addition, our engine heaters and cables conform to the requirements of ISO/TS 16949:2002.
