A car alarm system shall prevent theft from a motor vehicle. The alarm system activates the siren and the flashlights if one of the doors, bonnet or the trunk is opened. The alarm system will also be activated if the glass breakage sensor is trigged.
For extra protection it is possible to mount a microwave sensor for full interior surveillance, and a motion sensor for detecting jacking and towing of the car.

Immobilizer:
Immobiliser is an extra protection against theft of a motor vehicles and it is important to notice that this system is not an alarm system but rather has the purpose to prevent theft of the vehicle itself. This is normally done by disconnecting vital electrical circuits to make the car immobilised. Since October 1998, cars sold inside the EU area must have an EU approved immobiliser installed.
